With these video projects, I am juxtaposing my drawing practice with recordings of melting icebergs and permafrost. In Charcoal & Carbon, I draw characters using sticks of charcoal. Somehow, I am creating with the same element, carbon, that is destroying the seemingly majestic landscapes of Antarctica and Iceland. The melting permafrost, the melting glaciers are condemned, as I am working in my studio. The slow phenomenon occurs on huge landmasses far away on almost entirely uninhabited lands, such as Labrador in Northern Quebec, but it is a hyperobject in need of attention.
